The community leadership programme started in the Western Cape in South Africa. Many requests have been received to extend the programme to other South African provinces and even to other countries in the Southern African region, starting in Namibia.
The CLA is proud to announce that the programme will be extended to three further provinces in South Africa, namely the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
In order to extend the programme even further, the following challenges are important:
- Increase the capacity of the academy by training more presenters in different languages who can duplicate the course in other provinces or regions.
- Increase the core staff through special assistants and train-the-trainer programmes for the support of projects during implementation and monitoring progress or problems.
- Continue to adapt and increase the course material in different languages, especially the video material on successful projects that could be duplicated in any region as course attendees identify with project models that were developed in the region by community members.
- Form institutional partnerships in other regions that can duplicate the course, assist with wider accreditation of the course as well as with more start-up funding for good proposals.
“People are self-motivated, they do their best work when they have come to believe, through their own processes, that what they are going to do is worthwhile.”
– Sir John Harvey-Jones (company director, presenter and university chancellor)
